Wednesday Evening Bible Study with The Rev. Edward Johnston, 3:30-5:00 pm will begin September 15, 2010.

 

Mondays, 6:30 pm, Christian Meditation Group Readings from Fr. John Main and Fr. Laurence Freeman, with a recorded teaching of Fr. Main, followed by a 30-minute period of meditation.

Opening a Space Within: Hospitality in the Benedictine Tradition, The Rev’d. Dr. Jane A. Tomaine, Episcopal priest, nationally known retreat leader and author of St. Benedict’s Toolbox: The Nuts and Bolts of Everyday Benedictine Living, will lead this evening program focusing on the practice of hospitality found in the sixth-century monastic Rule of St. Benedict. When we want to trade our family members in for “shiny new ones” or close the door on a community, the wisdom of St. Benedict can help us to reclaim connection and purpose in these relationships. Ideas and useful tools for the practice of hospitality will be introduced.

Annual Lenten Retreat, This year’s Lenten retreat will be led by Sister Faith Margaret, CHS. Sister Margaret is one of three sisters serving on the Community of the Holy Spirit Council that oversees the running of the entire Community, as well as performing the role of Treasurer to the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Topic will be:  Fasting & Different Approaches to Fasting

Great Expectations, This year’s advent retreat will be led by Brother Robert Sevensky, OHC (Superior of the Order of the Holy Cross). In Twelve-Step circles it is sometimes said: “An expectation is a resentment waiting to happen.” What may we legitimately expect of God, of others, of ourselves? We will explore the dynamics of hope and the ways it expresses itself in our dreaming and desiring. Can we be people of great expectations? Where do the deepest longings of our hearts find a home in the Christmas promise? Lunch is provided.  Fee $25. Please call to reserve space.  Saturday, December 12, 8:45 am-3:00 pm.

Saturday, March 14, 8:45 am-3:00 pm:  Lenten Retreat, Brother Scott Wesley Borden will lead this year’s Lenten Retreat. Br. Scott is a monk of the Order of the Holy Cross, an Episcopal Benedictine Monastic Community in West Park, NY. Before becoming a monk he worked for 25 years in the field of Public Radio, including many years at WNYC New York. The topic will be “Preparing Heart and Mind for Lent (and what comes after),” focusing particularly on the Benedictine approach to Lenten practice.
